Mummy and Daddy Rats

Raina, last night at bed time: "All these years I've been thinking ... I thought you and mummy were rats for always telling me what to do. But now I understand you were trying to help me."

I wonder...

Miss R was feeling my belly as the baby moved around, and I said:

"I can't wait to see what PJ (Price Junior) is going to look like. Perhaps she'll look like you with brown hair and hazel eyes, or she might be completely different."

"Yeah," Miss R sighed in wonderment, "she might even have black skin!"

Oh to be 4 years old, wholly unaware of genetics and open to all possibilities :)

Hot!

Miss R: "I feel *hot* when I love someone."

Me: "Really?"

Miss R: "Yes, I'm just hot in my heart and I want to kiss them!" (and she proceeds to sing about love and kisses my shoulder, ooh la la)

Berenstein Bears

This afternoon Miss R wanted to watch a video, so I said she could watch a 30-minute show. "Two shows," she countered. "One," I replied, and we went back and forth a few times until she realized I wasn't going to budge.

I had to chuckle when she chose an episode of "The Berenstein Bears" in which Mama Berenstein complains that her cubs are watching too much tv and not enjoying the outdoors more :)

Out on the Back Porch...

The other day I was sitting on the porch steps sipping tea when Raina came up behind me saying, "Mummy, I think you know what's best for me."

I looked up a bit surprised and saw that she was completely serious.

Humbled, I said "Well, I do try my best to take care of you, but sometimes I make mistakes as you know."

She shrugged her little shoulders, put one arm around me and whispered, "I'll still love you, even if you make mistakes."

I hope this feeling between us lasts forever!
