Today Mei-Ling, Raina and I watched coverage of the homecoming of Australian teenager, Jessica Watson, who just completed a solo yachting voyage around the world. It was very inspirational, and I went out of my way to explain to Raina what it was all about, and how significant it was that a young girl was able to achieve such an extraordinary feat of courage and tenacity by herself. Her journey was 6 or 7 months at sea.
Later today, Raina said to us, "I want to go on a boat". Assuming the magnitude of today's event must have sunk in, waking her fledgling desires to achieve greatness, I asked her, "so, do you want to be an Australian hero, too?". Her reply was, "no, I just want to go on a boat."
